In 1955, Ernst Haas photographed model and actress Ivy Nicholson in Egypt, as she began filming the Howard Hawks film The Land Of The Pharaohs. Nicholson would later pull out of the film, replaced by actress Joan Collins; this portrait would go on to be published in the April 1955 issue of Popular Photography.

Verso datiert, gestempelt und mit mehreren Annotationen in Bleistift und Rot der deutsch-amerikanischen Illustrierten "HEUTE". Blattmaße: 28 x 21 cm. Die 1949 in Shaw's Corner in Ayot St. Lawrence (Hertfordshire) entstandene Aufnahme erschien 1950 in der 124. Ausgabe der illustrierten Zeitschrift "Heute". - Seit 1949 arbeitete Ernst Haas (1921-1986), u.a. mit Inge Morath, für die von der amerikanischen Militärregierung herausgegebene Illustrierte. Seine erste Reportage über Wiener Heimkehrer wurde 1949 in "Heute" veröffentlicht und später von der LIFE übernommen. Im selben Jahr schloss sich Haas auf Einladung von Robert Capa MAGNUM an und knüpfte enge Freundschaften zu Capa, Werner Bischof und Henri Cartier-Bresson. - Untere Blattkante mit roten Markierungen, Eckabriss unten rechts, oben rechts etwa 1 cm kurzer Randeinriss, etwas knittrig und mit kleineren Randläsuren.

Provenance The Estate of John Steinbeck John Steinbeck, the Nobel Prize-winning author renowned for his classic novels and non-fiction works, shared a close friendship and professional partnership with photographer Robert Capa. In 1947, during the early days of the Cold War, Capa and Steinbeck traveled to the Soviet Union to document everyday life there, blending Capa's powerful visual storytelling with Steinbeck's written narratives. Their creative compatibility formed a strong friendship and the two remained very close until Capa's death in 1954.
