Raiski", "Gest. v. Haach" and "Keine Lust zu Arbeiten! Purchased by the Saxon Art Society for the year 1834. 19 inches wide. 1 cubit 1 inch high.", below with "Gem. v. Schubauer", "Gest. v. Haach" and "Schlachtstück. Purchased by the Saxon Art Society for the year 1834. 1 cubit 12 inches wide. 1 cubit 4 inches high." Date: 1834 Description: The picture above, based on an original by Ferdinand von Rayski (1806 Pegau - 1890 Dresden), shows the so-called "lumpenproletariat". Peasants who were released from serfdom in the mid-19th century were often homeless and aimless at the time of industrialisation and not infrequently went to seed on the streets. The lower depiction, based on a model by the officer and artist Friedrich Leopold Schubauer (1795 Dresden - 1852 Kahnsdorf), shows a battle of the Tyrolean resistance fighter against the allied occupiers France and Bavaria in an Alpine mountain landscape. The 25th anniversary of Hofer's fight for freedom was in 1834 and held unchanged political significance with regard to the French occupation.       Ludwig Haach (1813 Dresden - 1842 Rom): Soldier sketches Head studies and full-body sketches with men in uniform, 19th century, Pencil Technique: Pencil on Paper, mounted on Paper Stamp: Verso Collector's stamp, Lugt no.: 4642. Stefan Kaps. Leipzig. 20th century Date: 19th century Description: Ludwig Haach was a German artist. He studied at the drawing school in Meissen and went on to study painting at the Dresden Art Academy. From 1834, he worked temporarily as a flower painter at the Meissen porcelain manufactory. He later went to the Düsseldorf Art Academy and was a pupil of the history painters Wilhelm Schadow and Theodor Hildebrandt. He moved to Rome with his student friend Alexander Heubel in the autumn of 1840. He died young and was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Rome. Haach.". Date: 1840 Description: The artwork presents a group of figures in a dynamic, riverside setting, emphasised by differentiated shades of grey and cleverly positioned lighting effects. In the centre is a couple under a cloth, surrounded by helping figures. Actions such as carrying, hurrying and supporting suggest a rescue or assistance.
