      Oil on canvas Signed and dated 1910 lower left 120.5 x 96.5 cm. (47 1/4 x 38 in) Provenance: Galerie Thierry Mercier; from whom purchased by Mallett, 2010. Literature: The studio , vol L, July 1910, p. 149. The studio in Studio talk vol 50 issue 209 august 1910 page 222 Edith Gunther (b.1887) was for a short period a pupil of William Orpen and was represented by the Chenil Galleries on the Kings Road, London. She was greatly influenced by Orpen s work and the directorship of the gallery by Orpen s borther-in-law. Edith was the daughter of Charles Gunther, the chairman of the parent company of OXO. She married a fellow artist Hubert Alexander who was a member of the Cranbrook Colony. The artist s work was exhibited at the NEAC.
