Alvaro Guillot (French, 1931-2010) Oil Painting

    Est: $400 - $600

Alvaro Guillot (French, 1931-2010) Oil Painting. Title - Le Mur (The Wall). Oil on canvas painting. Signed lower right Alvaro Guillot also signed titled and dated 1975 on reverse. Measures 12 inches high, 14 inches wide. Unframed. In good condition with craquelure. From Askart: Born in 1931, he was the son of a French diplomat and became known as an extremely talented existentialist early in life. Alvaro began his career among the well known artists in St. Germaine de Pres. Artist Charles Levier influenced Alvaro Guillot to paint. Creating his own ever - evolving style, Alvaro experimented with natural surrealism that grew with his artistic development. His later paintings are defined more as abstract realism. Alvaro Guillot has been described as a Surrealist with blocks of color creating an arrangement of shapes on the canvas capturing the nature of the subject matter itself. In Alvaro's work an object becomes less important as the subject, and more important as a pattern of interrelated colors and shapes. This style is evident in all of his landscapes and in his studies of still life objects. He creates still life paintings by fusing patterns and relating them with distinguished shapes that naturally flow within the overall theme. Using vivid colors to create his objects, Alvaro Guillot developed into one of the great painters of the second half of the 20th century. His sharp geometric lines defined with bold colors illuminates each canvas as they realistically represent an interrelation of landscapes and shapes. His paintings are romantic themes and exotic landscapes that seem to tell timeless stories that touch the soul. Each time a person gazes upon an Alvaro painting they see something new in the picture as well as new things within their own life. For many years Alvaro Guillot was active selling his paintings in the Florida and California art galleries. A demand for his original paintings changed his status as an up and coming French artist into one of the known modern painters from the late 1960's until the mid-1980's. Alvaro Guillot had many successful one man art shows in major cities throughout the world. These shows were known to sell out to art patrons of New York, Paris, London, Beverly Hills, Miami Beach and Palm Beach. At the height of his career Alvaro Guillot paintings were only sold by art galleries in America and Europe. A few paintings have become part of major museums. Alvaro Guillot suddenly disappeared at the height of his popularity in the 1980's. Rumors spread in art galleries and museums that he died of a terrible illness. Only the closest of friends knew that Alvaro Guillot had Parkinson's disease and was no longer able to paint. He lived a quiet life in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alvaro Guillot passed away in his home on July 28, 2010
