Wewerka Galerie, Berlin; private collection, Berlin An early work from the artist's multilayered oeuvre; Gün's abstract compositions fetch over €54,000 on the international auction market This work is a characteristic work by Mehmet Gün from the 1980s. In addition to video art and photography, the artist also created numerous mostly large-format paintings and works on paper. He typically chose a white background on which he created rhythmic compositions of impasto color patches forming a beautiful play of amorphous structures. Gün's goal was to create a pictorial space that would provide a haptic experience for the viewer. In the present work the inscription 'It is Beating for You' in the lower part of the image conjures up additional associations. The work is signed lower right, dated and inscribed 'GUN / 80 / BERLIN'. It is in very good condition. The surface is a little smudged here and there due to the material. The frame shows light wear. The framed work measures 142 x 96.5 cm, the stretcher frame measures 140 x 95 cm. Mehmet Gün (1954-2014) Born in Istanbul, Mehmet Gün moved to Vienna at the age of 16, where he later studied painting and philosophy at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1978 he had his first solo exhibition in Vienna. For a period of time he lived in New York. Here he devoted himself mainly to photography. In the 1990s, Gün published several essays and worked with sound installations and video art. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy, France, New York and Berlin. Gün lived and worked in Berlin, where he was also known as Dennis Gün. Works by the artist are held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York and Istanbul Modern.
