Grundmann - German sculptor active around 1900 Incised signature 'GRUNDMANN.' on the reverse of the marble base Fine standing figure of a lady in a slight walking position, dressed in a floor-length flowing dress; her head tilted to the right, the right arm supported on the hip, the left arm raised under the chest, shoulder; mounted on a high, hexagonal and stepped marble base Head, chest and Hand made of ivory, the dress and feet made of bronze Finely carved face Total height, including the marble base: 29 cm Good restored condition Finely engraved and carved Art Nouveau chryselephantine figurine This feminine chryselephantine is the work of the German sculptor B. Grundmann, who was active around 1900. Only a few figures by him are known. The figure masterfully combines the materials of bronze and ivory, and exudes charm and grace. The floor-length robe with wide sleeves runs in flowing folds and fits tightly to the body. The face is finely drawn and shows a thoughtful gaze. The statuette is mounted on a high caramel-colored and black veined marble base. The figure is in good restored condition. The left hand has been broken off and fixed professionally. Two fingers are missing. The ivory shows some dryness cracks due to age. The patina is worn in places. The total height is 29 cm including the marble base. The figure is 22 cm in height.
