    Mary Hallett Gronemeyer American (Missouri), 1893-1985 Untitled Oil on paper, signed lower left Forest scene of yellow birch trees and bridge over small ravine, possibly of Sugar Creek Valley in Kirkwood, MO where Mary Gronemeyer's studio was located. Mary Gronemeyer's family moved to St. Louis, MO in 1908 where she attended Soldan High School before studying painting at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts at Washington University. Moving to New York City she studied at Columbia University and Pratt Institute where she met her future husband, Philip Gronemeyer. Mary and Philip moved back to St. Louis in the 1920s and established a joint studio in Sugar Creek Valley, where Mary worked as a fashion illustrator and advertising artist for local businesses. She participated in the St. Louis Society of Independent Artists, St. Louis Women Artists, and the St. Louis Artists' Guild, along with being a founding member of the St. Louis County Art Association. Mary was known for her watercolors and St. Louis urban landscapes and her work is part of the permanent collection of the St. Louis Mercantile Library Association.

    Mary Gronemeyer (American, 20th century), "Expansive Missouri Landscape", c. 1940; watercolor/paper, 15" x 11", signed. Mary and her husband, artist Phillip Gronemeyer, both worked and exhibited in St. Louis. Mary studied at Columbia University and the Pratt Institute (NY). She exhibited throughout the 1910s-60s, and frequently worked in watercolor.
