Angie Grimes

Artist Statement My paintings express my personal and cultural histories having grown up in the seaside town of Skerries in north county Dublin. I have a deep affinity for the elemental power of water and the mysterious forces of nature. My paintings evolve over time through a processof rich layers of pigment. I use both volume and colour to shape the image that flows across the canvas. The rhythms and frequencies of pigment application create depths and swells on the paintings surface. Colour is used to heighten and expand the work’s emotional range. My pallet is not drawn from the need for representation but from the lyrical and emotive narrative in my art. Education Honours Fine Art National College of Art, Dublin Principles of teaching National College of Art, Dublin Diploma in Art History Trinity College, Dublin Organisations VAI Visual Arts Ireland Dublin Graphic Studio Broadstones Studios Awards 2001 Arts Council Award 2003 - 2004 Residency Tyrone Gutherie Centre 2004 - 2005 Residency Cill Rialaig Project 2007 - Heinrich Boll Residency Achill 2007-The Naughton GalleryAt Queen’s Heal Open Art Competition Adjudicators Prize 2008 - Arts Council Award
