Mrs Sophia Hawkins Whitshed, geborene Bentinck (1765-1852) mit ihrem Sohn, James (1795-1813) Signiert und datiert, 1790. Verso beschriftet: "Lady/ Mrs Hawkins Witshed [sic] & Son/ By Wm Grimaldi/ Enamel Painter to His/ Royal Highness the/ Prince Regent, ormolu frame with stamped border". Rahmen Metall vergoldet. Siehe J. Simon, The Account Book of James Northcote, Walpole Society, 1995-96, S. 67, Nr. 327. Konvention CITES. (1765-1831) of Membland signed 'W Grimaldi' (lower right) and inscribed 'Sir John Perring Bart / Lord Mayor of London / 1803 / William Grimaldi / pinxt 1809' (to the reverse) watercolour on ivory, oval, in a gold frame 6.5cm Provenance: Ellison Fine Art, Bucks, from whom acquired in 2013 by the late Barry Lock (1934-2021) The sitter was the eldest son of Philip Perring of Modbury, Devon. He was elected a Sheriff of the City of London in 1800 and later, in 1803, Lord Mayor of London. In 1808, he was created 1st baronet of Membland, Devon. The artist, William Grimaldi, was the great-grandson of Alessandro Maria Grimaldi, the heir of the Genoese family of Grimaldi, who had settled in England after the bombardment of Genoa in 1684. His clients included the Prince of Wales and Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany. In 1790, he was appointed enamel painter to the Duke of York, in 1791 to the Duchess of York, and in 1804 to the Prince of Wales. This item is offered for sale in accordance with the Ivory Act 2018 and has been assigned an exemption certificate, Ref. No. NELWSAKW.

(London 1751-1830 ebda.), Porträt des Duke of Bedford. Gouache auf Elfenbein. Sign., verso bezeichnet, dat. 1810. 11,5 x 9,5 cm. - In ovalem vg. Rahmen (leichte Altersspuren).
