      Sep. 29, 2016

Heinz Greissing, Ansicht von Ronda, Oil Painting, 1986

      Est: €3,000 - €3,900

Oil on canvas Heinz Greissing (b. 1933) – Austrian painter Signed ‘Greissing’, dated ‘VIII 86’ and titled ‘Ronda’ along the lower edge, titled ‘Ansicht von Ronda’ and inscribed ‘W/O” and ‘O/W’ on the upper stretcher bar Dimensions: 114 x 195 cm Framed: 136 x 217 cm Provenance: Private collection, Rhineland One of the artist’s typical depictions, in which two different views of the Andalusian town of Ronda -here from West to East and vice versa- had been dissected to stripes and alternatingly assembled. Condition: The large-scale painting is in overall good condition with only insignificant surface soiling and occasional minor framing abrasions. The canvas is faintly wavy in places. The elaborately crafted frame made of painted wood, acrylic glass and chromed metal is somewhat soiled and slightly singer stained. The lower left corner is loose. The overall condition is good. Heinz Greissing (b. 1933) Heinz Greissing is an Austrian painter, born in Vienna, and primarily known for his stripe paintings. Greissing attended the summer academy in Salzburg in 1956 headed by Oskar Kokoschka, after that he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His teachers were Christian Andersen and Herbert Boeckl among others. Today the artist lives and works in Bregenz and Weinsteig (Austria) and has been spending extended periods of time every year in the Southern Spanish town Ronda. Characteristically for his work are the so-called stripe paintings, which are inspired by the Spanish landscape and the southern light: The paintings are composed of vertical stripes and they have multidimensional references, this way Greissing presents simultaneously different views and times. Works of the artist are in the important public Austrian collections such as in Albertina in Vienna or the Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg.
