Condition B+ / A-: expert overpainting and restoration in margins and around lower text; repaired tear at right edge, slightly into image; minor restoration in upper right image. Greig was a watercolorist who also designed several posters for the P&O Cruise line and the Union-Castle Line, most through an Orientalist lens.

Offset lithograph of a dreamy Orientalist scene, housed in an original circular wood frame with repoussé floral decoration and flaking gilt. James Greig was born in Arbroath, Scotland, in 1861. He moved to London in 1891 to study art, continuing his training in Paris between 1895 and 1896. He settled in London, producing illustrations for a number of magazines, including Punch,The Sketch and The Strand. Greig painted UK and Middle Eastern landscapes, designed posters for P&O and illustrated Arthur Conan Doyle works. He was elected Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1898. He was also a talented writer and historian, and worked as an art critic for The Morning Post.
