      Ronald Gray NEAC (1868–1951)

      Est: £4,000 - £6,000

Ronald Gray NEAC (1868–1951) 'Tea in the Studio' signed and titled on artist's original label to the reverse with address of '15 Avenue Studios, 76 Fulham Road' oil on canvas 70 x 90cm Provenance: The Fine Art Society Exhibited: British Empire Exhibition, 1925 New English Art Club, 1947 It is likely that this work depicts a scene within an artist's studio at 76 Fulham Road, perhaps Ronald Gray's own, and probable that the figure holding the palette is Gray himself. The Avenue Studios consisted of a number artists' and sculptors' studios in use from the late 19th century which continued to be used for their original purpose until the 1980s. The two paintings hanging within the present picture can be identified as 'My Mother', 1908, by Ronald Gray and 'Oreads' by Annie Louisa Swynnerton. 'Oreads' was purchased by John Singer Sargent, who himself had a Fulham Road studio, as did Swynnerton. Both works are now in Tate Britain (N04098 and N03619). 90 x 111cm framed

      Est: $8,000 - $12,000

RONALD GRAY (1868-1951) READY FOR "THE 12TH." 1924. 39 x 48 inches. London Midland & Scottish Railway Company. Condition A-: horizontal and vertical folds. Framed. An exceptional representation of an upper-class tradition, wherein well-heeled members of British society headed up to Scotland for "the Glorious 12th," (August 12th) when the grouse shooting season officially opens. Traditionally, it was marked by an aristocratic exodus from the south of England during which the LMS "offered overnight services with sleeping cars for those visitors travelling from the south of England." (National Railway Museum). Here, disembarking from the train in Perth, old friends reunite as they get ready for an excellent hunting holiday. Extremely rare.
