                  Est: €300 - €400

MICHAEL GRAVES (Indianapolis, 1934-Princeton, New Jersey, 2015) for Alessi. "Pitcher" water pitcher. Polished stainless steel and thermoplastic resin handle. This piece is no longer in production. Measurements: 21 x 26 x 12 cm. This polished stainless steel water pitcher with embossed dots, 1991 design, can hold both hot and cold liquids because of its blue and maroon resin handle. It can be considered a characteristic and identifying piece of both architecture and product design of its time. It is a piece out of production. Michael Graves, a prominent American designer and architect, studied architecture at Princeton from 1962. His architectural works include the Portland Building and the Humana Building, the Whitney Museum of American Art expansion, and the Newark Museum. In addition to being a principal of Michael Graves and Associates and Michael Graves Design Group, he was a member of The New York Five and the Memphis Group and a professor of architecture at Princeton University for nearly forty years. He is recognized as a major influence on architectural movements such as New Urbanism, New Classical Architecture and, above all, Postmodernism, and was one of the most prominent and prolific American architects of the late twentieth century. As a designer, he gained notable popularity with his famous designs of utensils for Alessi, such as the famous 9093 teapot or the Pitcher water pitcher.

MICHAEL GRAVES (Indianapolis, 1934-Princeton, New Jersey, 2015) for Alessi. Cheese maker. Model MG30. 1997. Limited edition. Stainless steel, PMMA and ceramic. Out of production. Measurements: 19 x 39 x 39 cm. Michael Graves designed cheese dish, consisting of a ceramic board and a transparent plastic lid topped by a knob in the shape of a little mouse. Here Michael Graves' design features this charming cartoon mouse on the outside of the domed plastic lid, staring at the screen with a delightful looking ceramic "Swiss cheese". The adorable mouse reminds us of Topo Gigio, star of a TV show aired in both Italy and Spain in the 1960s, but best known in the United States for his appearances on the Ed Sullivan show. Or perhaps it was a nod by Graves to another famous mouse, as he designed numerous buildings for Disney beginning in the mid-1980s.
