      Virginia Grabenhofer (1918-2011) was a native of Hopkinsville, KY and was interested in drawing and artwork from grade school through her entire life. She lived in Nineveh, IN for many years. In 1945 she was commissioned to make background scenes for children’s stories. She studied under John Hilton, Clay Kent, Margaret Kessler, George Burrows, Al Stine, Joe Fettingies, Kay Poole, and Homer Hacker. She was a member of the Hoosier Salon, Shelbyville Circle of Art, and Indiana Heritage Art. She worked in oil, watercolor, and pastel but most of her work was in oil. She painted florals, Western scenes, and Brown County landscapes. She was a member of the Brown County Art Gallery Association and its board of directors. Her work is in many private collections in the US and France, where she enjoyed painting in Metz and on the west bank in Paris. Signed, bottom right.
