        (1906 Wien - 2004 ebenda)1906 Wien - 2004 ebenda) Exotische Tänzerin Bronze, vergoldet, partiell farbig bemalt; Elfenbein, geschnitzt; ovale Plinthe aus grünem Onyx. Sign.; ligiertes Gießer-Monogr. "AR" von Arthur Rubinstein, Wien. Um 1930 geschaffene Chryselephantin-Figur einer jungen, graziös posierenden Tänzerin in einem phantasievollen Kostüm mit hoher Kopfbedeckung. Gerda Gottstein (verh. Iro) arbeitete nach ihrer künstlerischen Ausbildung 1927-1929 in Berlin und in Paris als Assistentin von Oskar Strnad. Zur gleichen Zeit entwarf sie eine Reihe von Art Déco-Statuetten mit Tänzerinnen in exotischen bzw. futuristischen Kostümen, die unter ihrem Künstlernamen "Gerdago" signiert wurden. Ab 1931 wurde Gottstein zur wichtigsten Kostümbildnerin in der österreichischen Theater- und Filmgeschichte, sie entwarf u. a. Kostüme für Paula Wessely sowie Romy Schneider in der "Sissi"-Triologie. Plinthe ger. best.; Ges.-H. 30,5 cm. Gilt and painted bronze, carved ivory, green onyx base. Signed, foundry monogram "AR" by Arthur Rubinstein, Vienna. Minor chips to the base. $P#

Ciascun disegno è firmato e datato a matita in basso a destra "Gerdago 934" e reca il nome del compositore ritratto: tra i nomi Ernesto Tosi, Saverio Mercadante e Niccolò Paganini. I fogli recano talora notazioni manoscritte al verso. Interessante raccolta di bozzetti per i costumi del film Casta Diva (1935), incentrato sulla vita del compositore Vincenzo Bellini. (11)

        A Gerdago Cold-Painted Bronze & Dancer circa 1930, signed to base "GERDAGO" and with foundry mark for Arthur Rubenstein of Vienna, Austria, raised on a stepped onyx plinth affixed to a period brass base. HOA 14.25 in. Born Gerda Gottstein in Vienna in 1906, she studied art in both Berlin and then Paris. By the early 1930s she began a very successful career as a costume designer for dance revues and films, earning the nickname the "Austrian Edith Head." She passed away in Vienna on January 20, 2004.
