Henry Pelham (1694-1754), a wax profile to the right, modelled wearing embroidered coat, chemise, tied cravat and powdered wig in natural coloured wax, mid-relief on painted 'claret' glass within further natural wax surround, turned black wood frame, the obverse inscribed with the sitter's name 16.2cm high Provenance: Suckling Family Collection, Barsham Rectory, Suffolk, Bonhams, London, 27th February 2007, lot 107, for £600 incl. premium, From the estate of the late Barry Lock (1934-2021) Literature: L. Forrer, Biographical Dictionary of Medalists, II, p.299-302 E.J.A Pyke, Biographical Dictionary of Wax Modellers, p.59-59 Henry Pelham held the office of Prime Minister of Great Britain between 1743 and 1754. He had previously held positions as MP for Seaford (1717-1722), MP for Sussex (1722-1754) and Treasurer of the Chamber (1720-22). The Sucklings were an important East Anglian family from the 17th century. In the 18th century one of the Suckling daughters, Catherine was the mother of Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805).

Pelham and the Earl of Chesterfield, mounted in carved wax surrounds, surmounted by cornucopia, oval black and gilt frames, together with two wax silhouettes of the Dukes of Newcastle, each bearing labels for Clumber Park and crowned N's with inventory number. the frames height: 10 in.
