Gorny, Hein: Sculptures by Else Fraenkel

Sculptures by Else Fraenkel (1893 - 1975). 1923 - 1928. 12 vintage sepia-toned gelatin silver prints. Between circa 15,5 x 11 cm and 13,5 x 10 cm and two 23,5 x 18,5 cm. All but 2 mounted to thick card; each with typed label with title, date and photographer's stamp on mount verso. In original card portfolio (traces of use) with the artist's name on paper on front cover and address Hannover Bödekerstrasse 61 on inside cover.Beautifully photographed images of several of Else Fraenkel's bust sculptures. The portraits include Prof. Leonard Nelson (dated 1924) and Mina Tobler (pianist, dated 1927). In the 1920s-1930s Hein Gorny was a popular commercial and industrial photographer whose imagery followed that of the Bauhaus and Deutscher Werkbund. Not quite as modern as his industrial or commerical images, these earlier photos by Gorny do demonstrate a very modern and fine use of light in depicting sculptures. – Some oxidation mirroring in edges, small nicks in edges, otherwise fine tonal prints in very good condition.

An interesting group of photographs taken in 1945 after Germany's collapse at various locations in Berlin, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Charlottenburg castle, Gendarmenmarkt and Unten den Linden, including some aerial views. – Some traces of use, some soiled/ with creases, some with layout marks recto, otherwise many in good condition.
