GORDON (1936 - 2013) BAROQUE BABBLER; MISPLACED MYSTIC clay, 19.5" x 13.75" x 3.25" -- 49.5 x 34.9 x 8.3 cm.; 19.25" x 16.75" x 4.25" -- 48.9 x 42.5 x 10.8 cm., painted signature and dated 1984 Provenance: Waddington and Gorce Inc., Montreal, QC Note: RUSSELL T. GORDON (1936 - 2013) "I believe that images, like words, are in themselves meaningless, and are resurrected in context. For me, abstract images are redefined in new settings and materials, thereby changing their significance and, at the same time, reminding us of their meaning in other situations. This is not indeterminacy or equivocation: Each situation is a solid and concrete reality that changes Across time and experience." - Russell T. Gordon - Russell T. Gordon was born in 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he received his BaChelor of Fine Arts at Temple University with a basketball scholarship. He received a double Masters Degree (Arts and Fine Arts) in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin. He initially taught fine arts at the University of Utah, and the University of California, Berkeley, before settling in Montreal, Quebec in 1974. Gordon taught painting and drawing in the Department of Studio Arts at Concordia University until his retirement in 1998. Gordon exhibited extensively throughout North America and Europe, and his works are found in major public, corporate and private collections in Canada and the United States.
