Ron Gorchov (AMERICAN, 1930) Loggia Oil on canvas mounted on wood 1982 Signed and titled in ink, verso Dimensions: 46 1/2 x 36 7/8 inches (118 1/10 x 93 2/3 cm) In overall good condition with slight wear at edges Private collection, Canada Contact department for full condition report Abstract oil forms cover a canvas that is mounted to a rectangular wooden support structure with curved top and bottom edges, causing the surface of paint to balance in different positions. American artist Ron Gorchov reengineered the support structure to alter the interaction with the overlying painting and the viewers. The masses of paint are perceived differently from varying angles, some convex and others concave. As a result, a sensuous dimensionality occurs, highlighted by the brushstrokes, creating a dynamic surface. "Loggia" was painted in 1982 and is signed and titled in ink on the verso. In overall good condition, the painting measures 46 1/2 x 36 7/8 inches and is composed of oil on canvas mounted on wood. Ron Gorchov (AMERICAN, 1930) Ron Gorchov began his career at a young age in Chicago. He attended three different universities, University of Mississippi, Roosevelt College and Art Institute, and University of Illinois. Gorchov later moved to New York, where he developed his signature style. He is known for using curved canvases that extend out from the wall rather than the traditional flat, square canvases. He is also famous for using abstract, symmetrical forms on each side of the canvas that vaguely mirror each other. His works can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Guggenheim.

Ron Gorchov (AMERICAN, 1930) Untitled Oil on shaped canvas 2011 Dimensions: 78 x 70 inches; extending from wall 11 1/4 inches at both top and bottom (198 x 177 cm) Unframed with wood wall support In overall good condition Art Price Record: Christie's, New York, $80,000 Provenance: Vito Schnabel, 2006 Exhibited at MOMA PS1, New York Contact department for full condition report This piece, from 2011, is representative of Gorchov's interests in asymmetrical forms. The piece is green with two nearly identical vertical, beige structures overlapping the canvas. The piece on the left side of the canvas has an indent at the top with a square bottom. The piece on the right has a rounded top with a square bottom. Layered on top of the green paint, but underneath the vertical structures - another signature technique of Gorchov's - are vertical lines culminating in a circle on the left side of the painting. Both vertical structures represent the left and right sides of the human form, which appear symmetrical but in reality are imperfect. The painting is in good condition overall. It is unframed but includes a wooden wall support. It is also unsigned. The dimensions of the piece are 78 x 70 inches and it extends 11 ¼ inches from the wall from both the top and bottom half.
