'Schwarze Blüten' (= black blossoms) reaches complete abstraction - in pastose application of paint and broad brushstrokes in the shades red, black, green and yellow, the artist creates an associative landscape, suggesting two 'black blossoms'. The painting was exhibited at 'Kongress für Freiheit der Kultur', 1962 in Hamburg. The painting is signed lower right 'goral'. Verso, it is inscribed in black pen on the hardboard 'Arie Goral Schwarze Blüten. 1961' and bears a label. The cotton is mounted on hardboard. The painting is in good condition with slight traces related to age. The frame shows strong color abrasion. The hardboard measures 30 x 35 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 41.3 x 46.2 cm. Arie Goral (1906-1996) Arie Goral grew up as a child of a Jewish family in Hamburg-Grindel. In his youth, he joined the socialist Zionist youth movement. He trained in business management and agriculture. In 1935, he emigrated over France to Palestine, where he conducted several activities, e.g. in a kibbutz. His occupation as museum assistant in Tel Aviv was decisive for his future. In 1950, he began studying art in Italy. In 1953, he moved back to Hamburg, where he worked as a writer, political activist, art educator, collector and gallery owner. The Heinrich Heine monument in Hamburg was Goral's idea. He enforced the designation of the state and university library Hamburg after Carl von Ossietzky.
