      Shortridge (1814-1906), born in Portsmouth, pursued his business interests in Dover, N.H. and later Philadelphia, though he maintained ties to his native state as a member of the Society of the Cincinnati in New Hampshire. Oil on canvas, 39 1/2 x 28 3/4 inches. Signed "W.S. Gookin pinxt" and dated 1837, l.r. The reverse originally signed and inscribed "Wm S. Gookin pinxt/ 1837/ John Henry/ Shortridge/ Dover."

Oil on canvas, 42 x 34 inches. Accompanied by the original invoice for the painting, dated November 30, 1848.
