Exhibited: 124th Royal Academy Exhibition, Burlington House, 1892 Purchased by the vendor from Abell Auctions, Los Angeles, May 2018 thence a Private Collection. One small patch to the canvas is evident from the rear, I have taken an image from the area of the front of the canvas to show or not where the repair has been. The paint surface is clean and bright and has obviously been cleaned and restored sympathetically and doesn't show any glaring areas of repair/damage paint loss or crazing.

Maude Goodman (1853 - 1938) "Society News" Oil on Canvas. Signed on lower left. Maude Goodman was born in Manchester, England, to Jewish parents, in 1853. Goodman studied art in London at the School of Art in South Kensington, now the Royal College of Art. She was a pupil of Edward Poynter and also for a time studied under the tutelage of a Spanish painter who was visiting London, and had been himself a pupil of Fortuny. From 1874 to 1901, Goodman exhibited regularly 54 pieces at the Royal Academy in London. She also exhibited over the course of her career at other exhibitions and galleries including as the Grosvenor Gallery, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Also exhibited her work at the Palace of Fine Arts at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Depicting a female and a girl laying on a chaise. Both in classical attire. Tittled: Hush (or, A Moment of Idleness). Overall good condition commensurate with age and use. Loss to the right lower corner of the frame. Sight, 6”H x 10.50”W. Overall, 10”H x 14”W. This is signed by her and the signature matches. It is hard to find but its in the bottom of the sofa to the left of the figures. the frame is now damaged.
