Christian Gonne, Junges italienisches Bauernpaar stehender junger Mann neben einem sitzenden Mädchen, mit Aquarell und Deckweiß überarbeitete Graphitzeichnung, um 1880, rechts unten signiert "FGonne.", auf Unterlagekarton bezeichnet "Christian Friedrich Gonne. 1813–1906. "Junges ital. Bauernpaar", Kreiden mit Deckweiß gehöht u. aquarelliert, Größe 27 x 20,6 cm.", Papier fleckig und gebräunt, unter Passepartout montiert, Blattmaße ca. 27 x 20,7 cm. Künstlerinfo: das ist Christian Friedrich Gonne, dt. Maler, Zeichner und Schriftsteller (1813 Dresden bis 1906 ebenda), anfänglich Studium der Medizin, ab 1834 Studium an der Kunstakademie in Dresden, nachfolgend als Lehrer in Posen tätig, es folgten Studienreisen nach München, Berlin und Antwerpen, in den 1840er Jahren nach Dresden und Schaffung mehrerer Altarbilder, 1857–90 als Professor an der Akademie in Dresden tätig, 1875–77 fertigte er für die Semperoper ein Deckengemälde an, Quelle: Thieme-Becker, Wikipedia.

BIOGRAPHY: Christian Friedrich Gonne was a German genre painter, primarily of historical scenes. He also created portraits and was an occasional author.He was the son of a doctor and initially studied medicine. When he became twenty-one, in 1834, he decided to pursue a career in art and enrolled at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. After two years of study, he was awarded first prize for his work. He then went to Posen, where he briefly worked as a teacher. This was followed by study trips to Antwerp, Berlin and Munich, where he participated in an exhibition, then on to Rome. Several of his works were made into engravings.When he returned to Dresden in the late 1840s, he was commissioned by the Sachsischer Kunstverein to create an altarpiece for the city of Schellenberg (now Augustusburg). He went on to create several more altarpieces, but the one he painted for the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in Falkenstein was destroyed in 1978 when the Pastor, Rolf Gunther, committed suicide by self-immolation. In 1848, at the request of the banker, Martin Wilhelm Oppenheim, he oversaw the painting of murals at the Palais Kaskel-Oppenheim.From 1857 to 1890, he was a Professor at the Dresden Academy. Among the many portraits he painted there, his most familiar is the one of King John of Saxony, which is on display at the Leipzig Town Hall. From 1875 to 1877, he created a ceiling painting in the vestibule on the south side of the Semperoper, depicting "Poetic Justice: with Heroes from Drama and Opera".He was married to Philippine Kaskel (1813-1889), the sister of Carl von Kaskel, who owned the Bankhaus Kaskel and, later, the Dresdner Bank.

Christus in Emmaus / Christ in Emmaus

Gonne, Christian Friedrich. 1813 Dresden - 1906 ebenda. Christus in Emmaus. Öl auf Papier, auf Pappe kaschiert. Um 1845. Unsigniert. Rückseitig von unbekannter Hand bezeichnet. Gerahmt. 21,5 x 21,5 cm (Kernmotiv). 26 x 22,5 cm (Träger). 37 x 33,5 cm (Ra). Wohl für die Rahmung kaschiert und am unteren Rand ergänzt. Einige kleinere Retuschen über Farbausbrüchen. Im Falzbereich berieben und mit Fehlstellen. Kleinformatige Studie zum motivgleichen Altargemälde der St. Petri Kirche in Augustusburg (vormals Schellenberg), Sachsen, welches Gonne 1845 zur Ausstattung eines neu errichteten Kirchenbaus geschaffen hat. Nur 48 Jahre später brannte das Gebäude völlig aus und wurde von 1894 bis 96 in neuer Fassung (diesmal durch Schilling und Graebner, Dresden) wiederaufgebaut. Das Altargemälde konnte gerettet werden und fand in der nunmehr neobarocken Stadtkirche erneut Aufstellung. Zieht die große, finale Ausführung den Betrachter durch ihre Detailtreue und Teilhabe in den Bann, überzeugt die kleine vorliegende Studie durch ein unmittelbares Empfinden der Situation des Erkennens, welches der Sponteanität des lockeren Duktus eingegeben ist. Christ in Emmaus. Oil on paper, mounted on cardboard. Around 1845. Unsigned. Backside with remarks by unknown. Framed. Added on lower margin. Some small retouches. Edges with some small bruises. Sketch for a large altarpiece in Augustusburg, Saxony, Germany, created in 1845.

Verso auf der Leinwand o.li. in Pinsel nochmals signiert "Chr. F. Gonne pinxit" und auf li. Keilrahmenleiste ein altes verbraeuntes Papieretikett. Darauf in Feder in deutscher Schrift, stark verblasst und teils unleserlich, wohl mit Annotationen zum Umgang mit dem Gemaelde versehen "Wenn das Bild mit Oelfirnis ueberzogen werden soll […]". Daneben in rotem Buntstift nummeriert "2247". Im historisierenden, goldbronzefarbenen Schmuckrahmen mit eck- und mittebetonenden Kartuschen gerahmt. Dort auf einem Metalletikett bezeichnet "Prof. Chr. F. Gonne. Dresden 1887" u.Mi.
