Gómez Gil, Guillermo (1862 Malaga - 1942 Cádiz) Altstadtgasse in Sevilla. Öl auf Leinwand, 1893. Signiert und datiert unten rechts. In Plattenrahmen mit Perlstab. 81 x 34,5 cm, 102 x 49 cm (Ra). Sehr guter Zustand, gereinigt. Old town alley in Seville. Oil on canvas, 1893. Signed and dated bottom right. Framed. Very good condition, cleaned. Very athmospheric narrative scene in southern Spain. A couple meeting or taking a walk in good spirits, dressed in traditional andalusian clothing. Gómez Gil teached in Seville, so it is close at hand that this scene may be located here.

Oil on canvas Signed and dated in the lower left corner. On the back in the frame, General Repair Fund label. Guillermo Gómez Gil, a disciple of Federico Ferrándiz and Antonio Muñoz Degrain, specialized in seascapes, mainly on the Málaga and Cádiz coasts, and presented several works at national exhibitions, receiving an honorable mention in 1892; third medal in 1897; and second in 1901 and 1906. Regarding this "View of the port of Malaga", there are several versions painted around the same time with the same perspective of the port of Malaga, in which the ships and characters that animate the scene are varied. One of these, "View of the Port of Malaga" (oil on canvas, 56 x 105), It is preserved in the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga, and was also painted in 1896. As Carlos García Navarro indicates in the file of the mentioned work of the Carmen Thyssen Museum “…in the same year of 1896, in the Biennial of the Circle of Fine Arts, showed another painting that, with the generic title of Marina, represented a view of the same characteristics (as the one in the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga), which was echoed by the critics”. This work to which reference is made could be the one presented here, due to the coincidence of dates, theme and importance. Measurements: 90.5 x 150 cm it represented a view of the same characteristics (as that of the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga), which was echoed by the critics”. Est: €6,000 - €7,000

GUILLERMO GÓMEZ GIL (Málaga, 1862 - Cádiz, 1942). "Fleeting Encounter". Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Period frame. Restoration. Measurements: 158 x 59 cm; 188 x 89 cm (frame). In this gallant scene, a man approaches a young woman wrapped in a mantilla and touched with a handkerchief. From the girl's smiling face, we can see that she does not refuse the flattery. From the fragment of the village shown, with its narrow, pebble-paved streets, we can guess at its rustic beauty. Gómez Gil began his training in Malaga, where his first teacher was Emilio Ocón y Rivas, and later continued his studies as a pupil of Federico Ferrándiz and Antonio Muñoz Degrain. He specialised in landscape painting, particularly seascapes, paying particular attention to lighting effects. In 1892 he submitted six landscape paintings to the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid, three of them of the port of Malaga and two entitled "Una borrasca" ("A Squall") and "Efecto de sol" ("Effect of the Sun"). He won a third medal with marine themes at the National Exhibition of 1897 with an oil painting entitled "Efecto de luna" ("Moon Effect"). In 1901 he won a second medal with a work of the same title, and repeated the award in 1906 with "Marina" and "Playas de Málaga". In 1910 he became a teacher at the Seville School of Arts and Industries, living for long periods in Cadiz. A painter of refined technique and great sensitivity, he left for posterity numerous seascapes which are models in their genre, standing out especially in the depiction of the reflection of the sun and moon on the surface of the sea. Guillermo Gómez Gil is represented in the Museo del Prado, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, the Museo del Patrimonio Municipal de Málaga, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla, the Diputación Provincial de Zamora and the Museo de San Telmo in San Sebastián.

          Est: €4,000 - €6,000

Guillermo Gómez Gil (Málaga, 1862-Cádiz, January 6, 1942) painter belonging to the Spanish costumbrismo, specialized in seascapes. He was born in Malaga in 1862 and trained in this city, opting for art, his teacher being Emilio Ocón y Rivas, professor of Fine Arts who created a school in Malaga and left several disciples. His studies were carried out at the San Telmo Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He goes on to participate in the Barroso Prize, an award managed by the Malaga City Council, whose purpose was to motivate the students of said school. In 1881 he returned to participate in this prize, although in none of the participations he managed to win. In the year 1880 he participated in a collective exhibition organized by the Malacitano city council with the name of «Artistic, Industrial and Agricultural Exhibition», in which he participated wearing Puesta de sol and Marina. He specialized in landscapes and seascapes, for which he became famous and famous. He participated in several National Exhibitions, obtaining an award in 1892, 1897, 1899, 1901, 1904, 1906, 1908, 1915 and 1917, obtaining the recognition of a third class medal most of the time. From 1881, when he resides in Malaga, until 1892, when he appears as a participant in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid that year, there is a gap of thirty years in which his activity is unknown, so there is very little data about him. He was a professor at the School of Arts and Crafts in Seville, a city where he lived for many years, until his retirement in 1932, alternating between Seville and the city of Cádiz, where he died on January 6, 1942.
