Kennedy Jr. looking back while walking with his sister and other Kennedy family children at Robert F. Kennedy's funeral. Signed, dated, and inscribed in ink to Neil Leifer by photographer. "For Neil. I guess this is payback for the signed copy of 'Dreadnought Returns' you gave me 30 years ago." 16 x 20in. The photographs in this auction have been examined by an expert, whose opinions pertaining to the age of the prints, the printing process, and the type of paper used, are included in the description of each photograph. Although Guernsey’s believes these descriptions to be accurate, interested buyers are urged to personally inspect the prints either at the public preview or by appointment with Guernsey’s. One of the altogether five gigs took place on the Ed Sullivan Show at the Deauville Hotel, Miami Beach. The year marks the big breakthrough of the Beatles in the USA with their song ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’. The single was released on 18 January 1964 and sold more than half a million times in less than three weeks. Condition: The print is in good condition. The corners are slightly bumped, there are handling marks at the upper margin of the photograph. The image size is 16.3 x 24.1 cm and the size of the sheet is 20.3 x 25.2 cm. Bob Gomel (b. 1933) Born and raised in New York City and after serving the Navy during the Korea conflict, Bob Gomel began working as photojournalist for LIFE magazine in 1959. Working with the presidents Kennedy and Nixon, he reported on the funeral of Eisenhower, John and Robert Kennedy but also icons in sports, literature and the entertainment industry. In the 1970s he started making photos for other major magazines and also branched out to advertising photography. Now his interests get reflected in documentaries about people and lifestyle of cultures in Nepal, Russia, Argentina, Israel or Laos to name a few. Gomel presents the star in a private situation wearing a bathrobe and a towel turban. As impressively seen here, Gomel always intended to 'penetrate the veneer', in order to reveal the true personality or character of his sitter. The gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: Bob Gomel LIFE MAGAZINE © Time Inc.' on verso; it is also stamped 'GRAZIA NERI FOTO · SERVIZI PER LA STAMPA [...]'. There are further stamps and handwritten notes such as 'Lennon in Florida US town 1964'. The print is in very good condition considering its age. The image size is 24.3 x 16.5 cm and the size of the sheet is 25.5 x 20.5 cm. Bob Gomel (b. 1933) The photojournalist Bob Gomel grew up in New York and served in the Navy as a young man. In 1959, he began working for the LIFE MAGAZINE. In the 1970s, he became also active for other major magazines and branched out into advertising photography. As impressively seen here, Gomel always intended to 'penetrate the veneer', in order to reveal the true personality or character of his sitters. The silver gelatin print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: Bob Gomel LIFE MAGAZINE © Time Inc.' on the verso. There are further stamps and handwritten notes such as 'Beatles US tour 1964'.
