Michael McCoy Glancy Sold at Auction Prices

Plastic Art

When Michael Glancy was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, he discovered a lab that informed his engagement with copper electroforming on glass. He travels to Sweden annually to direct the making of the glass blanks that he brings back to the U.S. Here he shapes his glass art in a studio that involves complex fabrication methods and materials that include sandblasting patterns. His organic-looking compositions are inspired by both microscopic patterns and mathematical formulas suggested by the science of molecular biology. His sandblasted patterns are electroformed or electroplated on and within the body of his glass to express his concerns with both order and chaos in nature and the universe. Amongst glass collectors, Michael Glancy’s studio glass is well known and highly admired, and his works are owned by major museums and private collections worldwide.

Video Link: https://vimeo.com/932207202?share=copy   Jules and Connie Kay were passionate collectors of art and antiques during their 67 years of marriage. Focusing on American paintings of multiple genres, as well as European and Chinese ceramics, the Kays amassed a diverse collection of art and objects, even before falling in love with contemporary art glass about twenty years ago. It became a hobby and a joy for both to visit local galleries and studios together and seek out new and exciting works by many talented glass artists to display in their Palm Beach home. The couple were drawn to pieces of unusual shapes, colors, and meaning, and appreciated the expressiveness of each piece they chose to add to their collection. Their daughter Sally recalls, "Their houses are filled with works of art!"
