Joy Girvin Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1961 -

Statement - “Light patterns over the water.” “Ever changing wave movements’ and cloud formations” are the main themes of the sea paintings.

I started to paint coastal paintings as I developed a strong interest in sailing, so often observe light patterns, rhythm in the sea`. I aim to create an illusion of reflections and light changes on the sea, through combining marks and textures layering colours as if the marks and light surfaces, drift into being yet also have a figurative quality with which connections can be made.

Current themes in my work include coastal and beach scenes; in the painting of Brighton Beach I wanted to capture the
colourful summer atmosphere and combined sketches of people and events taking place throughout summer days to capture an essence of the place, to extend those brief moments in time by fixing them as if time stopped still.
