MARIA GIRONA BENET (Barcelona, 1923-2015). "Pomes verdes". 1985. Oil on canvas. Signed, titled and dated. With Àmbit gallery label on the back. Measurements: 65 x 54 cm; 68 x 57,5 cm (frame). Maria Girona was formed between Barcelona and Paris, also making study trips to London, Holland and Belgium. She developed an intense exhibition activity, which took her work to cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris and Buenos Aires, among others. He also participated in the Salones de Octubre and May in Barcelona, and in 1953 he participated in the II Bienal Hispanoamericana de La Habana. In 1997 she was awarded the City of Barcelona Plastic Arts Prize. She is represented in several private collections, as well as in the Museum of Modern Art of Santo Domingo. In the year 2024 the Can Framis Museum of Barcelona dedicated an extensive exhibition to her in its halls.

MARÍA GIRONA BENET (Barcelona, 1923 - 2015). "Figuras". Pencil on paper. Signed on front and back. Size: 26.5 x 20 cm; 41 x 34 cm. frame. Girona trained with his uncle, the painter Rafael Benet. In 1946 he exhibited for the first time, with the group "Els Vuit", in Barcelona. In 1950 he obtained a grant from the French government and settled in Paris for four years, also making study trips to London, Holland and Belgium. During these years he began an intense exhibition activity that took his work to cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris and Buenos Aires, among others. She also participated in the Salones de Octubre and de Mayo in Barcelona, and in 1953 she took part in the II Bienal Hispanoamericana in Havana. Married to the painter Albert Ràfols Casamada, from 1970 she taught drawing at the Eina School in Barcelona. In 1997 she was awarded the City of Barcelona Plastic Arts Prize. Her language is based on a colourist Fauvism of cubist construction, evolving into a line of simple images, soft forms and lyrical atmosphere. In the 1970s she adopted the collage technique, which she used in a series of works composed of naïf ornamental elements, evocative of past atmospheres and eras. María Girona is represented in various private collections, as well as in the Museo de Arte Moderno de Santo Domingo.
