Signed in pencil lower right, Lawrence Gipe 1991 and lower left "Study 16 for Fin de Siecle". Impressed paw blind stamp on the paper sheet - lower left. In good condition. The source imagery for Gipe's paintings are varied but always have to do with some form of ideological photographs - from Nazi propaganda to social realism. By expropriating these images it is the artist's intention to have the viewer reconstruct the images' ideological significance. The work is powerfully attractive while being foreboding
