Giovanni del Biondo, The Virgin Enthroned with Saints John, Peter, Paul and Francis of Assisi, Cherubim and Seraphim

      Est: €40,000 - €60,000

The exact birth date of Giovanni del Biondo is unknown. Tax records from 1356 indicate however that the artist was active as a painter in Florence, where he spent the majority of his career. His oeuvre was first outlined in studies by Richard Offner and Klara Steinweg ("A Critical and Historical Corpus of Florentine Painting", 1969) and Miklós Boskovits ("Pittura fiorentina alla vigilia del Rinascimento 1370-1400“, 1975). Over the years further works have been attributed to him whereby the starting point for the attributions are two signed altarpieces. Del Biondo's works are characterised by bright colours and simple compositions, both of which can be observed in this panel. His earliest works are frescoes which continue the tradition of Giotto in the broadest sense. His panel pictures, however, show above all the influence of Andrea and Jacopo di Cione.
