    Est: €19,200 - €24,000

Oil on canvas, relined Russia, around 1870 Aleksandr Vasil'evich Gine (1830-1880) - Russian painter Atmospheric moonlight landscape Overall dimensions, framed: 85 x 125 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany Works of the artist are very rare and sought after collectable items on the art market. His idyllic interpretations of landscapes fetch up to 70,000 Euros at international auctions The present painting is a beautiful example of the work of the Russian landscape painter Aleksandr Vasil'evich Gine and was executed around 1870. It depicts an atmospheric harbor landscape under a clouded sky shimmering in the silvery light of the hidden moon. The nocturnal setting is animated by a group of figures at the lower left side, which is illuminated by the embers of a campfire in the artist's typical manner. The painting has recently been restored and is well presented. The impasto is fresh with much of the fine details in good order. A central, vertical crack of about 50 cm has been restored. Inspection under UV light displays several minor areas of retouching and a few tiny dabs in addition to the restoration in the middle part. The paint surface is minimally stained and shows light marks, where the frame has rubbed. The wooden frame is in good condition with only small traces of wear. The framed piece measures 85 x 125 cm and the size of the stretcher is 74 x 114 cm.
