Gimbrede, Professor of Drawing at West Point Military Academy 1826-Dated, Scarce Original Stipple and Line Engraving of President John Q. Adams by Thomas Gimbrede (1781-1832), Professor of Drawing at West Point, Military Academy, published by Ridley Printer, N.Y., Very Fine. Original 1826 Engraving of President John Quincy Adams, measures about 14" x 18" sheet (about 46 x 34.5cm). Printed text at bottom reads: "T. Gimbrede, Professor of Drawing at West Point, Del. & Sculp. Copyright Secured According to Act of Congress, 1826 John Q. Adams. President of the United States Respectfully Dedicated by the Author to Col. S. Thayer, Supr.t U.S. Military Academy. Ridley Printer N.Y." This Print shows John Quincy Adams, three-quarter length portrait, standing, facing slightly left, with a short pillar pedestal in the foreground, on which rests a book and paper, and a chair labeled "U.S." with a Heraldic American Eagle bearing a striped Shield in the background. Also with an emblem at center of the title portion at bottom, with an American Eagle, within a circle of stars, with its wings spread and bearing a device labeled "Nunc Sidera Ducit". Well printed on fine period wove paper with sharp dark contrast, having several small prior mounting pieces on the blank reverse side and there are a couple deft sealed splits to the margin corners, the upper right restored. Overall, a very attractive engraving of the sixth President of the United States that is attractive and would look very handsome framed for display.         Engraved by John Sartain and painted by John B. White. "Gen. Marion in his swamp encampment inviting a British Officer to dinner." H 16" W 19-3/8". Frame size H 23" W 26-1/4. Original painting was done by John Blake White. CONDITION: There is an old tear that has been repaired located on the lower right hand side of the print measuring approximately 3.5" There are small losses around the edge of the print.
