        William Gill, The only survivor (der einzige Überlebende), großes Ölgemälde von 1869 William Gill, lebte und arbeitete nachweislich zwischen 1826 und 1871 in Leamington und London, britischer Genremaler, hier: Nach einem Unwetter liegt ein gestrandeter Seemann auf Felsen an der Küste, ein Kreuz in Händen haltend. Am linken Rand ragen die Reste eines gekenterten großen Schiffes aus dem Wasser. Die Gottesgläubigkeit des Mannes, symbolisiert durch das goldene Kreuz auf seiner Brust, hat ihm - so die Bildaussage- das Leben gerettet, Öl/Lw., doubliert & restauriert, 85 x 115 cm, r. u. sign. u. dat. 1869 Werke von William Gill wurden im 19. Jh. regelmäßig bei der Royal Academy ausgestellt. William Gill, The only survivor, large oil painting from 1869 William Gill, living and working in Leamington and London between 1826 and 1871, British genre painter, here: After a storm, a stranded sailor lies on rocks on the shore, holding a cross in his hands. On the left edge the remains of a capsized large ship rise out of the water. The man's faith in God, symbolised by the golden cross on his chest, has saved his life, according to the painting's message, oil on canvas, doubled & restored, 85 x 115 cm, signed on the right and dated. 1869 Works by William Gill were regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy in the 19th century.
