Jean Gibson studied at Royal College of Art, 1951-5, graduating with first class honours and a travelling scholarship. She took part in many group exhibitions including Royal Academy Summer exhibitions, 1978-91, and the London Group, of which she became a member in 1987. Solo exhibitions included Leicester Galleries from 1968; Nicola Jacobs Gallery, 1981; Oriel Gallery, Cardiff, 1985; Lynne Stern Associates, London, 1991. Commissions included Commonwealth Institute, 1967; P&O Lines, for the Oriana, 1969; Record Industry Awards, 1975-8; Tel-Aviv Museum, Israel, 1976; and Cecil Denny Highton Group of Architects, 1982. Her work is included in 'Contemporary Women Artists' by Wendy Beckett, Phaidon Press, 1988. Retrospectives of her work were held at The Redfern Gallery, 1995 and S&D Gallery, London, 2013. Jean Gibson lived in London and was married to the painter Anthony Whishaw RA
