    • PORTRAIT OF A LOUISIANA GENTLEMAN.
      Aug. 25, 2011

      PORTRAIT OF A LOUISIANA GENTLEMAN.

      Est: $3,000 - $4,000

Possibly done by Jean-Joseph Vaudechamp (1790-1866) or Antoine Placide Gibert (1806-1876). Oil on canvas portrait is believed to be of a creole gentleman from New Orleans, LA and probably painted sometime before 1850. Both of these painters worked in New Orleans and are known to have done quality portraiture. Painting is framed in what appears to be its original frame which stylistically is similar to other known New Orleans frames. Frame is molded gesso and gilt and is molded in each corner with shell, floral and vine design. SIZE: SIGHT: 9" w x 11-1/2" h. CONDITION: Generally very good. 9-21897
