Salon de 1864. Opinions de divers critiques d’art sur le portrait de Madame Eugène Paillet par Mr Giacomotti. Paris, 1864. Manuscrit de 71 pp. In-8, maroquin citron, décor Renaissance doré composé d'un double encadrement de filets et fers azurés comprenant, aux angles, quatre médaillons ovales de maroquin olive mosaïqué au chiffre MP, dos orné, dentelle intérieure, doublures et gardes de moire bleu ciel, tranches dorées sur marbrure (Andrieux). Charmant recueil calligraphié d'éloges du portrait de Mme Paillet présenté au Salon de 1864 par le peintre franc-comtois Félix-Henri Giacomotti (1828-1909). Ce manuscrit a été spécialement composé pour le modèle, Marie-Rosine Paillet (1834-1921), l'épouse du bibliophile Eugène Paillet (1829-1901). Il s'ouvre sur une photographie, par Bingham, du tableau encensé et se poursuit avec des extraits de la publication officielle présentant le Salon. Ces morceaux choisis en donnent le contexte pour tout ce qui concerne la section peinture. La suite du recueil est composée de 24 extraits d'articles tirés de différents journaux faisant l'éloge du « délicieux portrait de femme de Monsieur Giacomotti » (Théophile Gautier). Ces extraits ont été recueillis, mis en ordre et transcrits par Ernest Gallien ; les titres, faux-titres et têtes de pages sont de la main de Victor Bouton, un des meilleurs calligraphes du XIXe siècle. Très beau volume dans une fine reliure mosaïquée au chiffre de Mme Paillet signée d'Andrieux, relieur attitré de la Maison d'Orléans qui exerça à Paris de 1837 à 1870 environ. Deux lettres autographes signées de Giocomotti à son modèle sont jointes au volume. Charnière supérieure légèrement fendillée.
