  • Large Signed Ilse Getz Modern Abstract Painting
    Feb. 05, 2022

Large Signed Ilse Getz Modern Abstract Painting

    Est: $300 - $500

Signed Ilse Getz Abstract Post War Painting. This commanding abstract painting on stretched canvas was created by the artist Ilse Getz (German-American, 1917-1992). Getz was a German-born American artist whose practice was based largely in painting, collage, and assemblages with found objects. This particular painting, entitled  A Bland Window and dated 1971, has a broad wash of periwinkle blue over the bottom two thirds of the painting. The shades are slightly different than one another, and delineated by a hesitant, slightly uneven line. At the topmost portion of the painting, colorful circles playfully dance with one another, and are particularly eye-catching in contrast with the bottom portion of the work. It is inscribed on verso with "I. Getz 1971" and "A Bland Window," as well as the dimensions of the stretched canvas. This piece has a simple wooden frame that adds to the experience of viewing, without competing with the painting for attention. This artwork would be a fine addition to an accent wall, or to the space above a mantelpiece. From the collection of contemporary artist Cary Leibowitz. Dimensions including the frame are 46.5 in h x 57.25 in w x 2.5 in d. Condition is good to very good. The frame is somewhat unrefined, with gaps between some joints. There are some slight scuffs and stains to the painting itself, though some could likely be removed if cleaned properly. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
