    Margaret Ralston Gest (1900 - 1965) Watercolor on paper, Signed , measures 10.5" x 15' , w/frame 17" x 21.5' A Philadelphia native, Margaret Gest attended the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1924 - 28) and L'Academie Scandinave in Paris from 1928 -1929. She studied at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art under Hugh Breckenridge, among others, with whom she also studied numerous summers in Gloucester, Massachusetts. She made the Gloucester art colony her seasonal home for the majority of her lifetime. She exhibited, along with her friend Edith Wood, with the Philadelphia Ten in 1935. Primarily a watercolorist, Gest was considered the most "modern" of the group due to her cubist stylistic tendencies; together she and Wood were regarded consistently as "more contemporary" than the other exhibitors. Gest exhibited regularly at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1927 through 1960. She won numerous awards and scholarships,
