Jean Léon GÉRÔME (1824-1904) Natures mortes aux fleurs devant des paysages de montagnes. Paire d'huiles sur panneaux, monogramées LG en bas à droite, datées 1854. Au revers sur l'un : inscription à l'encre "Gérôme" et "Ces 2 études de jeunesses étaient accrochées à D et à gauche du lit de Gérôme". Sur l'autre : Gérôme à l'encre et au crayon de bois "Vente de la propriété de Gérôme à Bougival". étiquette de Morin, 42-44 rue de Miromesnil. 22 x 49.6 cm Provenance : Collection Pierre Tiquet, puis par descendance. Cette paire de natures mortes aux fleurs ne peuvent bien se comprendre qu'ensemble puisqu'elles se répondent : l'une à l'intérieur avec le rideau, l'autre à l'extérieur, l'une à la table rectangulaire, l'autre au guéridon ovale, l'une au temps radieux, l'autre à l'orage menaçant, l'une horizontale aux vase et aux fleurs couchés, l'autre aux vase et aux fleurs verticales. Nous voyons bien là les recherches de l'artiste comme en témoigne la nature morte au guéridon dont une fleur semble sortir de la composition restée à l'état d'esquisse comme le laisse penser la partie haute non traitée. Leur point commun réside dans les paysages de montagnes en arrière plan qu'il découvre lors d'un premier voyage dans l'Empire Ottoman en 1854, date de nos tableaux. Compte tenu de la place particulière que ces oeuvres avaient dans la maison de Bougival, Il n'est pas interdit de penser qu'il s'agit peut-être du premier essai de ces paysages qui deviendront si caractéristiques de son oeuvre par la suite. DER TOD DES CAESAR Öl auf Leinwand. 72 x 110 cm. In reliefverziertem Rahmen. Das hier angebotene Gemälde bezieht sich auf eine große Version des genannten Malers (215 x 368 cm), das im Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, USA, (Inv. Nr. 37.884) verwahrt wird und 1867 datiert ist. Auch unser Gemälde könnte vielleicht im Vorfeld zu der Ausfertigung des größeren Werkes entstanden sein, da offensichtlich einige Details, wie die Ausarbeitung des Bodens eine Änderung erfuhren, der in unserem Bild vorwiegend durch das Blut des Caesar gekennzeichnet ist. Dieser liegt links im Vordergrund. Dieser wurde am 15. März 44 v. Chr. von mehreren Senatoren unter Führung des Marcus Iunius Brutus und Gaius Cassius Longinus im Portikus des Theater des Pompeius in Rom mit 23 Dolchstichen getötet. Das Gebäude verfügte über einen speziellen Versammlungsraum für den Senat (die sogenannte Curia Pompeia), und hier wurden öfter Senatssitzungen abgehalten. Dies lag daran, dass bestimmte Senatoren das Pomerium, die heilige Zone Roms, nicht betreten durften. Das Theater des Pompeius auf dem Campus Martius lag außerhalb des Pomeriums. (1430224) (13)
