Young girl with a bouquet of yellow summer flowers, around 1903. Oil / canvas. 65 x 80.5 cm. Sign. See: "A group of girls watches the flight of storks passing by" (stork picture) in the Stadtmuseum Landsberg. From 1882 to 1888 Walter Georgi attended the Royal High School in Leipzig. From 1890 studies with Paul Wehle at the Leipzig Art Academy. From 1893 at the Paul Hoecker Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1896 main collaborator of the weekly magazine Die Jugend and Simplicissimus. In 1899 he founded the "Scholle" with members of "Gruppe G" in order to be able to exhibit together in the Glaspalast. The name "Scholle" goes back to a poem by the poet Michael Georg Conrad as an expression of the pursuit of individuality. Because all members of the group were required to edit and order their "own plaice". They wanted to be "fresh and cheeky", in the spirit of the very liberal Munich art professor Paul Hoecker. His students wanted to get out of dusty and musty studios and devote themselves to outdoor painting and not "work off" models. Walter Georgi was the first plaice artist to move from Munich to Holzhausen on the Ammersee in 1903. Since then, the landscapes of the surrounding area have found their way into the works of the plaice artists. People in the foreground, a pastel pasty application of paint were the characteristics of this group of artists. 1908 professor at the Karlsruhe Art Academy until 1919. Georgi was a member of the German Association of Artists. 1912 Member of the Werkbund 1914 Study trip to Brittany Walter Georgi died on June 17th at the age of only 53 in his home in Holzhausen am Ammersee.

Illustrationsentwurf zu einem Gedicht der Wiener Humoristin, Schriftstellerin und Journalistin Kory Towska (Kory Elisabeth Rosenbaum, 1868-1930) für die Zeitschrift Die Jugend, Jg. 6, Nr. 97, 1900. Walter Georgi, einer der Hauptvertreter des Münchener Jugendstils und Impressionismus um 1900, war nach Studien an den Akademien in Leipzig, Dresden und München ab 1896 einer der Hauptmitarbeiter der Wochenzeitschrift "Die Jugend" und des "Simplicissimus". Hier kam er mit der "Gruppe G" in Verbindung und gründete mit deren Mitgliedern 1899 die "Scholle", um miteinander im Glaspalast ausstellen zu können. - Beigegeben: Drei signierte Zeichnungen von Karl Treumann. - Provenienz: Sammlung F. W. There are light marks, where the frame has rubbed. The paint surface is also slightly rubbed. Walter George (1871-1924) Following his studies at the Leipzig art academy, Walter Georgi also visited the art academies in Dresden and Munich during the 1890s. In 1896, he works as an illustrator for the ‘Simplicissimus’ and the ‘Jugend’. In 1899, he is one of the founding members of the Munich artist association ‘Scholle’. Between 1908 and 1919, he is a professor at the art academy of Karlsruhe and is member of the Werkbund in 1912. In his activity as an illustrator, he designs from 1914 a range of field-postards for the bakery Bahlsen. One year after his death, the Kunstverein Leipzig remembered with a memorial exhibition the work of native Leipzig painter.
