Vintage Paul Geissler's (1881-1965, German) version etching of Neuschwanstein Castle framed. Etching has writing at the bottom. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Erfurt, followed by studies School of Arts in Weimar under Max Thedy. His early interest in painting gave way to etching, the medium for which he is most famous. During the 1920s and 1930s, Geissler traveled extensively through Europe and the United States, producing an extensive body of etchings portraying the principal landmarks of major cities including New York. He died at Garmisch. Size: 15 X 8.5" with frame. Condition: Wear commensurate with age.

Receives commissions for paintings from the German Empress and a Russian grand-duke. Gives up painting and specializes on etchings, the art he likes best. Works on large etchings in Paris, 1910-11. Moves to Munich, Germany, 1912. On the board of Association for Original Etchings, in Munich. Travels through Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Holland, Austria, France. Moves to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, 1918. His most productive years are 1920-30. Travels to USA, 1928, returns via Sicily and Italian mainland. In USA, executes beautiful etchings of Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia as well as scenes of Yale and Princeton. Appointed professor in Germany, 1943.Several universities offer him a post, but he remains independent. Paul Geissler was born June 25, 1881 in Erfurt, Germany, where his father was a gardener. He studied drawing with the painter Sondermann and attended the Arts and Craft School in Erfurt for 4 years. In 1903, he studied at the Grand-Ducal School of Arts in Weimar, Germany, with Max Thedy. He received commissions for paintings from the German Empress and a Russian grand-duke. Subsequently, he gave up painting and specialized in etching, the art he liked best. Geissler worked on large etchings in Paris, 1910-11 and then moved to Munich, Germany in 1912. He served on the board of the Association for Original Etchings, in Munich. He traveled to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Holland, Austria, France, moving to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in 1918. His most productive years were 1920-30. Paul Geissler (German, 1881–1965) was an German artist, best known for his etchings of landscapes, figures, and the street scenes of cultural centers like Paris, Washington D.C., and Berlin. Born on June 25, 1881 in Erfurt, Germany, he originally studied painting and printmaking in 1903 at the Grand-Ducal School of Arts in Weimer before going on to dedicate his work to the practice of etching. Following a prolific period of travel to the United States and Italy in 1928, Geissler continued to produce work through World War II and was appointed a professor in Germany in 1943.
