Condition Report: The felt to the base slightly pulled. Patina rubbed in areas, in particular to the back legs and rear, neck and underbody. A small bolt to the right of the rear. Knocks and scratches associated with use.

The subject is depicted standing wearing a robe and holding a book in his right hand which is leaning on a stool with additional books. Signed along the front side of the base "T. GECHTER.". Fitted with a custom ebonized circular wood stand. 13 3/4" H x 8 1/4" W. 18 7/8" total H. 19th century.

DIANE DE POITIERS CHASSANT LE CERF Vergoldete Bronze mit Alterspatina Höhe: 60,5 cm. Sockelbreite: 54,5 cm. Sockeltiefe: 30,5 cm. Links am rand der Plinthe Signatur „T. GECHTER“, am vorderen Plinthenrand bezeichnet „Diane de Poitiers“. Diane in prachtvollem Gewand mit Schmuck auf einem sich aufbäumenden Pferd mit wervollem Sattelzeug mit Wappen, mit ihrer linken Hand auf einen Hirschen hinweisend, der von drei Hunden umringt ist. Ein Jagdbegleiter kann nur mit Mühe einen Hund zurückhalten. Über seinem Rücken trägt er ein kleines Jagdhorn und an seiner Hüftseite hängt ein Schwert. Er hat seine Rucksack und sein Gewehr in der rechten Ecke abgelegt. Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren, Klinge des Schwertes fehlend, Pferdezügel gerissen. Anmerkung: Diane de Poitiers (1499/1500-1566 Schloss Anet bei Paris) war seit 1553 Herzogin von Valentinois und seit 1553 Herzogin von Étampes. Bekannt wurde sie als Mätresse und Vertraute König Heinrichs II. von Frankreich (1519-1559). Heinrich war ein begeisterter Jäger und beteiligte sich gern an Turnieren; Diana bestärkte ihn in dieser Leidenschaft. (13218111) (18)
