T.L.S. on his personal medical letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Hohenlychen, Feb. 8, 1938, most likely to ILSE HESS (1900-1995), wife of Rudolf Hess. Gebhardt dispenses some medical advice regarding some discomfort in her feet. He also offers to visit her soon for a more detailed examination. He signs boldly at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds, a paper clip mark at top left and file holes to the left margin, else very good.

In part: "...success can only be achieved in a very gradual manner since it is a matter of decades of changes, some of which are based on the investment [of time]...despite...an accident...a certain improvement and relief has occured...and at least the ankle...[is] painless...the muscles have developed a much better hold of the back...vertebrae have large, extensive calluses and scars...I''ll use glucose tomorrow...". Folds, file holes at left margin, else very good.

Conducted bone and muscle experiments on prisoners at Ravensbruck. Convicted of crimes against humanity and executed. T.L.S. by his nurse SCHWESTER TRAUTE on Hohenlychen Sanitorium letterhead to ILSE HESS, wife of RUDOLF HESS, 1p. 4to., Hohenlychen, Apr. 10, 1938. She advises Hess that she has been called to Brussels and Paris but the son of her mechanic may be brought to the clinic at any time. Fine. By the 1930s the Hohenlychen Sanitorium had become one of the main medical facilities of the Schutzstaffel, where injured or convalescing SS-men were treated.

T.L.S. on his personal medical letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Hohenlychen, Oct. 11, 1939 to Ilse Hess, the wife of Rudolf Hess. While Medical Superintendent of the Hohenlychen Sanatorium, Gebhardt discuss his surgery on a "Mr. Trondle", apparently on the man''s knee, and advises that the stae will assume the cost of the procedure. He adds: "...As you may know, I was assigned to the Fuhrer''s headquarters and, after an operation in the hospital, I came back with a general infection which now, thank God, is perfect...we have occupied only 150 beds and 450 [in the] reserve hospital...we are considered a special clinic...we will try to continue our great construction program...the only grief is the lack of workers, although this can be overcome ..." Hitler was a major contributor to the hospital, making very large contributions before and during the war. File holes in margin, else fine condition.

Convicted of crimes against humanity and executed. T.L.S. on his personal medical letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Hohenlychen, July 14, 1936 to the wife of Rudolf Hess. While Medical Superintendent of the Hohenlychen Sanatorium, Gebhardt advises that he has contacted an athlete whom she was concerned about and he would keep her advised. He states that the facility is growing with additional beds having been added, and hopes that Rudolf Hess may be able to visit the facility before the Olympics begin. Fine. The same clinic would be used by Gebhardt to conduct some of his notorious sepsis experiments on prisoners and the spread of infection.
