FRED GEARY WOOD (1894 - 1946) RARE WOOD ENGRAVING

    Est: $650 - $850

Street K.C. 1930s An interesting street scene with contrasting light and shadow, signed in pencil by the artist on the lower left corner, exhibition label form the Northwest Printmaker's 18th International Exhibition, 1946. Obviously, this is a Kansas City street scene. The E.J. Reardon Tobacco Company was located at 709 Main Street in Kansas City from around 1889 to perhaps as late as 1948. The storefront depicted here is that of a tobacconist named E.J. Reardon as lettered on the storefront windows with the address 709. As noted on the reverse, Fred Geary was based at K.C.'s Union Station and worked for the Fred Harvey Company creating promotional brochures. He was a member of the Prairie Printmakers and the Kansas City Woodcut Society. Sight size measures 8 x 9.25 with a frame of 16 x 17.5 inches. We happily provide seamless in-house packing and shipping services on nearly everything we sell.
