Ernest Gazan Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1895 - d. 1979

Ernest Gazan was born in 1895 and was predominantly influenced creatively by the 1900s and 1910s growing up. The vigorous development of pictorial art defined the first decades of the twentieth century. It was an era of experimentation and post-Impressionism, with artists first investigating Expressionism and Abstraction. Many different collectives and communities of artists across the world developed different ways of articulating these crucial innovations. In the meantime, Expressive painting was being further established and explored in a number of countries around the world. the Nabis in France were the first to delve into this movement at the start of the century, and German groups such as Die Brucke and Der Blaue Reiter soon followed suit, developing the careers of renowned artists such as Kirchner, Franz Marc, and Wassily Kandinsky.

Three large buttons on the garment, the collar decorated with a large frilled collar. The face and hands are made of ivory. The figure on a round plinth. Measurement: 55x22x18cm. Mark: Inscr.
