Gaupmann, inscribed several times in pencil on the reverse: "Aus dem Besitz des Malers Ferdinand Küss" / Acquired from the estate auction (A. Venger?) 29 Sept.1930 by H. Decker (Heinrich Decker) / Rudolf Gaupmann senior 1811-1877. Two small studies with boys, pencil on paper, mounted on cardboard, once coloured with watercolours, coloured drawing sign. Gaupmann, stamped on the reverse: "Sammlung von Aquarellen u. Handzeichnungen alter u. neuer Meister S. K. H. Erzherzog Friedrich / Blasius Fornach Antiquitäten, , Miniaturen Wien.       Watercolor on paper Signed lower left Friedrich Gauermann, with certificate of authenticity attached. Gauermann He was an Austrian painter of the nineteenth century. Born into a family of artists as his father was a landscape painter originally from Lower Austria.In 1824 he began his studies at the Vienna Academy and traveled extensively between Venice, Dresden and Munich. His painting is characterized by an interest in a natural rendering of the landscape with important references to Dutch artists such as Ruisdael, Wouwermann, Potter and Ross. In 1836 he was elected artistic member of the Imperial and Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
