      50 hand-coloured etched plates only (of 65, numbered 1-49 including 3 bis), some marginal foxing or soiling, Paris, Martinet, [c.1820] bound with [Scheffer (Jean-Gabriel)] [ Receuil des Scènes Familiéres, et de Société de Paris ], 31 hand-coloured lithographed plates only (of 36), lithographed by Villain after Scheffer, most signed "J.S." in plate and with small embossed stamp in lower margin, with publisher's name supplied in manuscript, most lightly browned, a few others a little foxed and with water-staining to lower margin, [Not in Colas], [Paris], Martinet, [1824] and Pigal (Edme-Jean) Moeurs Parisiennes, plates 3-6, 9, 10, 13-16 & 18 only (of 100) [c.1823]; Scènes de Société , plates 4, 15, 18, 19, 30, 32-34, 36, 43, 44, 46, 47 only (of 50), [c.1822], all hand-coloured lithographed plates by Langlumé after Pigal, with a variant of Scènes de Société No.4 ºissez les yeux petite sotte' loosely inserted and 2 other similar plates bound in (one by Pigal from another series), some a little foxed or browned, one or two with heavier damp-staining, final plate water-stained, [Colas 2366 & 2367; Ray, French 128 & 130], Paris, Gihaut et Martinet, together in 1 vol., broken and becoming loose, contemporary half red morocco, titled 'Moeurs de Paris 1825 à 1826' on spine, rubbed, 4to Collection of scenes of Parisian society by a variety of printmakers: Godisart de Cari (fl.1803-29) was a French etcher who often included his name as part of the print (plate 6 apparently includes a self-portrait); Jean-Gabriel Scheffer (1797-1876) was a Swiss genre painter and lithographer; Edme-Jean Pigal (1798-1873) was described by Beraldi as being "superlatively vulgar" but Gordon Ray defends him, " no one would accuse him of excessive delicacy, but he knew his world and could depict it incisively in his lithographs." Ray, French 130 All the suites are rare with only a few copies (or parts of) sold at auction. There are only 2 known complete copies of the Scheffer suite (one at Yale); these plates are on un-watermarked paper and with the imprint supplied by hand. 'See also lots 125 and 186.
