OSKAR GARVENS (Hanover, 1874 - Berlin, 1951). "Don Quixote". Bronze. Signed. Exhibitions: "European sculpture of the 20th century", European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM), Barcelona, 2014. Size: 41 x 42 x 11 cm. In this sculpture Oskar Garvens represents Don Quixote on the back of his mount, worked with great detail and naturalism. A sculptor, draughtsman and caricaturist trained at the Berlin and Munich Academies until 1903, Oskar Garvens moved to Paris around 1905, returning to Germany shortly afterwards. He devoted himself mainly to sculpture during the early part of his career, before the First World War. He was mainly prominent as a political artist. His satirical illustrations - characterised by angular volumes that can also be found in his sculpture - are well known, which he published in various media, including the magazine Kladderadatsch, with which he collaborated during the 1920s.
