Theo Garvé, Painting, Flower Bouquet, Germany, 1951

      Est: €1,280 - €1,600

Oil on canvas Germany, 1951 Theo Garvé (1902-1987) - German painter and pupil of Max Beckmann Signed, inscribed and dated upper right 'Garvé S 51' Inscribed 'Th. Garvé, 1951 Sylt/Kaitum' on the stretcher In wooden plate frame Dimensions: 77 x 40 cm Good condition Throughout his entire career Garvé devoted himself to the subject of still life, here with a bouquet in glowing coloring; his still lifes fetch up to €5,200 on the auction market The German artist has realized the theme of flower still life somewhat unusual in this painting. The bouquet of bright yellow flowers fills neither the image nor is it artfully arranged in a beautiful vase on a table. The flowers seem to be arranged casually, in a jar-like vessel on a simple wooden chair in an indicated space. Through this composition the rich yellow flowers and fresh green leaves have a special emphasis. The painting is signed, inscribed and dated upper right 'Garvé S 51'. In addition it is inscribed 'Th. Garvé, 1951 Sylt/Keitum' on the stretcher. The painting shows a faintly visible horizontal crack in the surface and along the edges slight framing traces, along the right edge somewhat stronger. It is overall in good condition. The frame, too, is in good condition with slight signs of wear. The painting measures 77 x 40 cm. The framed dimensions are 92.5 x 55.5 cm. Theo Garvé (1902-1987) The artist was born in Offenbach. After an apprenticeship as a mechanic he studied from 1926 to 1930 at the School of Applied Arts in Frankfurt, where, among others, Max Beckmann was his teacher. Thanks to several grants Garvé traveled to Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg. 1938 and 1939 he trained in graphic techniques. In 1941 he was drafted into military service, after the war he was involved in the reconstruction of the Städel School in Frankfurt. In 1956 Garvé obtained a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg. (fea) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
