      Rocio Garcia (Born 1955) Oil on canvas, Signed Lower Right, Measures 47 x 55 inches unframed. This piece is titled on verso "El Mingo" from the series "Hombres, machos, y marineros". Painting created in 1999. Dedicated to Famous artist Tomas Sanchez on verso. Piece is in great condition, and recently cleaned, never restored. Rocio Garcia graduated from the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in 1975 and received her MFA at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad, Soviet Union, in 1983. She was an Artist in Residence at the Vermont Studio Center (2010), the University of Michigan (1997) and the Ludwig Foundation of Cuba in Basel, Switzerland (2007). Among her most outstanding individual exhibitions are Geishas or Pictures of the Floating World (23 and 12 Art Center, Havana, Cuba, 1997); Tribute to Sappho (Common Language Bookstore, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1997); My Little Pieces for Sale (Racklan Building East Gallery, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, 1997); Male Sailor Men (Habana Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 1999), The Tamer and Other Stories (Habana Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 2003); The Thriller (National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba, 2007); Sassy Lady (Havana Gallerie, Zürich, Switzerland, 2007); Very Very Light…and Very “Dark”: a Policeman with Alzheimer (La Casona Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 2010); Hidden Realities (with Alberto Casado. Sidney Mishkin Gallery, Baruch College, New York, 2011); and The Return of Jack, the Punisher… (Habana Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 2012). She is the recipient of important awards, such as an Honorary Mention in Painting at the City Salon (Provincial Center of Visual Arts and Design, Havana, Cuba, 1991), an Honorary Mention at the Second Biennial of Caribbean and Central American Painting (Museum of Modern Art, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 1994), and the National Illustration Award (Cuban Book Institute, Havana, Cuba, 2000).
